Ever since the Honda Civic Tour announced their line up for this summer, I could not wait to finally watch two of my favorite bands live. Linkin Park and Incubus co-headlined an energetic and amazing show.
At 7:20, at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ, Incubus started their set by playing “Adolescents”, which was the first single off of their last album If Not Now, When. Incubusplayed fan favorites such as “Nice To Know You”, “Dig”, “Drive”, and “Anna Molly”. The best part about Incubus’ shows is that they start with really hard hitting songs and yet by the end of their set when they’re playing more melodic, slow songs, Brandon Boyd’s voice still sounds flawless. Another great thing is that Incubus has a sound that can be appreciated by all music lovers. If you want something fast, they played “A Certain Shade of Green” and “Megalomaniac”. If you want something slow, they played “Drive” and “Here In My Room”. Yet, although Incubus has changed their sound throughout the years, it still sounds very true to who they are as a band. I had two favorite moments of their show: one being when Incubus covered Lionel Richie’s famous “Hello” and it started with Brandon Boyd saying “Hey Girl” (maybe we need to start a feminist Brandon Boyd meme?) and the second being when Incubus played a b-side from If Not Now When?, “Rebel Girls”. Seriously, my hat goes off to Incubus for always being consistent on their shows and having yet another phenomenal show.
Now, the last time I saw Linkin Park was at Live 8 and it was with Jay-Z and it was great yet it wasn’t more than just a few songs. I had always itched to see them live. The wait was worth it. Linkin Park came out to the Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Til Brooklyn” and then began playing “A Place For My Head”. Linkin Park played a good mix of their discography. They played songs mainly from Hybrid Theory and Meteora, which old school fans will very much appreciate especially since some fans were not very happy with their last three albums. Even when they played songs from Minutes to Midnight, A Thousand Songs, and Living Things the crowd had a very great response. The thing that is so astonishing about Linkin Park is how much they care about their fans. I mean, they are dedicated to their fan club, the Linkin Park Underground. In all honesty, Linkin Park might have the most dedicated fan base, but it’s not that they’re so dedicated, the Linkin Park Underground is very visible. Linkin Park played a phenomenal show; Chester’s vocals were great, Mike Shinoda was on point, DJ Joe Hahn, Phoenix, Brad, and Rob were also just amazing. Linkin Park played fan favorites such as “Somewhere I Belong”, “Breaking the Habit”, “Numb”, “Burn It Down”, “In the End” and encored with “Faint”, “Lying From You”, “Papercut”, and “One Step Closer”. There’s something to be said about a band that can play music off of their debut and sophomore album and get the response that they get. Also, I also want to applaud Linkin Park, not only for their great show, but after all these years still have the exact same line-up that they had on their first line up. They perform like a family and seem like they do really care about each other, the band, and the fans.
