American pop duo Karmin kicked off their first ever headlining tour titled Pulses in Baltimore, MD at Baltimore Soundstage for an intimate and dedicated crowd. They performed songs from their EP Hello and their upcoming LP Pulses as well as a couple of covers which they are so famous for.
It’s amazing to see how successful this duo has become. They got their start on YouTube, covering hip hop chart toppers like “Look At Me Now” by Chris Brown, “6 Foot 7 Foot” by Lil Wayne, and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj. Covering songs like that showed off not only Amy’s amazing vocal chords but her rap skills as well.
Amy and Nick are very personable and fun on stage. They often interact with the crowd and they both show off their dance moves when performing. You can tell from their banter on stage between songs that Amy and Nick are very down to Earth people. Amy shared a story about the unfortunate battle with their label of them telling her that if she wants to be a girl who raps, she has to rap like a brat. She then stated she wants and will rap like her idols Jay-Z and Kanye West. As she told this story, she was speaking into a microphone that had a vocal effect on it for Nick’s deep vocal part in their single “Acapella” making her sound like a man, which got a lot of chuckles from the crowd. Amy also stated that no one should ever work with their significant other, as she and Nick are, because it throws some additional challenges into their relationship and their music, but they make it work.
Karmin is a must see live band, as they are full of energy, and their songs are fun and danceable. Their tour spans across major cities in the United States through February 22nd. You should definitely plan to see them if they come through your town!
