Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop has exploded since we photographed their first show in the area opening for Marina and the Diamonds at Rams Head Live in Baltimore back in 2012. Their song “I Love It” topped the charts and was featured on many popular television shows like Girls, Glee, and The Vampire Diaries as well as several commercials. Icona Pop is made up of two 20-something girls, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo. The two met at a party while attending the same music school in Stockholm and formed Icona Pop in 2009.
Icona Pop came onstage to an arena full of balloons and screaming fans. Touring arenas with Miley Cyrus on the Bangerz Tour has to be one huge thrill ride for the duo. Their set starts with a remix of their two hits “I Love It” and “All Night” with the lights off in the arena. Then, the stage lights spotlight the duo and they transition right into performing “All Night” as the girls own the front part of the catwalk of Miley’s elaborate stage. Icona Pop is the perfect start to the party that is the Bangerz Tour. They had the crowd jumping and singing along with them – their synth pop music and charismatic energy filled the entire arena, giving their performance a giant house party feel to the sold out audience.
